The Internet Killed The Joke…

…Because Everything Is Now A Punchline

Technologist and writer Eugene Wei has an incredible insight on how the internet generally – and Twitter specifically – has birthed a new type of comedy.

From his must-read article, Status-As-A-Service (StaaS):

“…the internet has killed the joke, humor is all punchline now that the setup of the joke is assumed to be common knowledge thanks to Google.”

I recently stumbled on a Twitter feed that 100% embodies this notion of a joke that is all punchline.

The Twitter handle is @ramlover69 (aka Dodge Ram Owner) and, as the name suggests, the feed is replete with jokes entirely referencing a Dodge Ram vehicle.

To prepare for the Twitter feed, I did a one-minute Google search on the Dodge Ram; the main takeaway from this search is that the Dodge Ram is a half-tonne pick-up truck that is:

  • “built for work”
  • “engineered for toughness”
  • widely used in the construction industry to carry heavy loads (especially steel beams)

This is basically all the set-up you need to enjoy the following @ramlover69 Tweets.

The joke is dead. Long live the joke!
